When I began my creative journey, I quickly realised that art demands a level of energy beyond the one we use in our everyday life. This insight led me to recognise the importance of nurturing both my artistic and spiritual lives. To access the wellspring of creative energy—the energy of All—we should dive deep within ourselves, seeking solace in a sacred space far from the noise of repeating thoughts, worries, and desires.
In her book “Women Who Run With the Wolves” Clarissa Pinkola Estés refers to this space as “Río Abajo Río”—; the river under the river nourishes everything we make. In symbology, the great bodies of water express the place where life itself is thought to have originated.”
I feel deeply connected to this symbol, envisioning diving into the water with complete surrender, trusting the flow, and relaxing into a greater energy that goes beyond the obvious.
In the Hispanic Southwest, the river symbolises the ability to truly live. It is greeted as La Madre Grande—the Great Woman. This image inspires me, offering encouragement and calmness, reminding us that everyone can find their way to these profound waters—a genuine source of life.
